The day aims to promote education and prevention of thalassaemia through public awareness campaigns, genetic counseling, and screening programs.

World Thalassaemia Day was first observed in 1994, and it has since become an international event with participation from thalassaemia organizations and individuals worldwide.

The day serves as an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the resilience of individuals living with thalassaemia and their families
